The Grom, Thunder in English, is a small, turbofan-powered, unmanned combat vehicle (UCAV) developed by Kronshtadt and intended to perform air-to-air and air-to-ground combat missions. Besides, the jet-powered aircraft is also suitable to perform intelligence, surveillance target acquisition and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions. The 7-ton Grom is less expensive than larger, jet-sized aircraft such as Okhotnik-B UCAV. It can be armed externally with a wide array of air-to-air missiles and air-to-surface bombs and weapons. The multipurpose unmanned aircraft was unveiled in August 2020 at Army exhibition in Russia and is expected to join the Russian Air Force by 2025.
The Grom used to take down sophisticated air defenses can control up to 10 Molniya strike drones to effectively penetrate the protected area while destroying the air defense system itself. Both Molniya and Grom can be used for releasing of bombs and missiles. This kind of tactic might be already been tested in Syria in early 2021.
